Changing Lanscapes - International Contemporary Textile & Fibre Art Symposium 2025 • November 22, 2025.
Six artist speakers and two round table discussions with invite international artists, accademics, journalists, curators and art directors to discuss the place of textile and fibre arts in contemporary art and how its function plays a vital role in many arts adjecent industries specifically technology and economy. Curated and moderated by Ilze Godlevskis, the symposium aims to bring diverse expereinces of global artists together to compose the landscape of Nature, Being and Technology through the textile and fibre medium and discpline.
Changing Landscapes is a one day event that will explore themes around the evolutionary incorporation of technology into hand made practices with presentations, round table discussions and a hands-on workshop, all live-streamed for a broadly accessible cross-continental experience. European Textile & Fibre Arts Panel for the SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Association) 2024 Plurality & Heritage virtual conference • April 12-20, 2024.
The round table discussion with participants from diverse European backgrounds and textile arts experience. The panel hosted of Beatrijs Sterk (Holland/Germany) , Maja Gecic (Serbia) , Jonatan Jurkowski (Poland) and myself, - moderator- Ilze Godlevskis (Italy/Latvia). Discussing the theme of Plurality & Heritage the pannel discussed the diffusion of contemporary textile arts in Europe and the European approach and dicpline of arts practice. Sharing experiences from the various countries represented and expereinced over their extensive professional careers and training, the pannelists considered their roles as artists, curators, facilitators and experts from a European lens. Collecting perspectives of different ages, sexs and professional histories, created an opportunity to view the landscape of textiles arts over time and the changing approach to the practice in relation to historical and contmeporary society. We also explored the panel's vision of how the community engagement and the pluratily of inclusion has formed and evolved the practice.

The first round table contmeporary textile & fibre art conversation combining experiences of different ages, sexs and professional histories, creating an opportunity to view the landscape of textiles arts over time and the changing approach of the practice in contemporary society. The invited participants from diverse European backgrounds and textile arts experience. The panel hosted of Beatrijs Sterk (Holland/Germany - exptert & journalist) , Maja Gecic (Serbia - textile artist, academic & professor) , Jonatan Jurkowski (Poland - fibre artist, student & curator) and Ilze Godlevskis (Italy/Latvia - textile artist & moderator). The discussion aimed to explore commonalities and perspectives of the diverse experiences and backgrounds of the pannalists to form a hypothesis about the direction of contemporary textile and fibre arts both in society and in the arts community.
